8/31/18: Daily Post

Yesterday, I spent the day in Socorro.

I started out by having a Varsity Tutors tutoring appointment with a new student.  We will see how that works out.

After that, I attended the NMT Club Fair and started the “Science Outreach Club” which will hopefully cover some of our gas costs during our outreach projects.

In the afternoon, I had a meeting with the dynamo group.  I had started a meeting with them on Thursday, but it got cut short.

I also met with the Materials Department briefly as well.

In the evening, I did some work towards one of my Upwork contracts.  I have a second that will kick into high speed starting next Thursday.

Yesterday, I spent the day working at the NMT Club Fair, recruiting students for the Metal Casting Club and the Tech Amateur Radio Association.  It was good to walk around and recruit students, and maybe find a few that are really interested in trying something new.

In the afternoon, I taught my first section of instrumentation lab.  I only have six students in it this semester, and I did a poor job of teaching it.  It was really unexciting, and my example was confusing and uninteresting.  I will have to improve this for next year.

In the evening, I commuted home on the buses and trains.  I wrote two articles for the school newspaper and had an otherwise uneventful night.

I did look up Myers-Briggs tests, and those things  always depress me.  I absolutely hate my personality type, and yet, it is accurate…  I always show up as an ENFP, which is probably the worst personality type if you wanted to be an engineer or a scientist.  I wanted to be the Professor, but ended up as Gilligan.   Anyway, I went to bed instead of reading more of what I already know.

Yesterday was a busy day.  I worked with the Tech Amateur Radio Association (TARA) to get a portable station running for the Club Fair on campus.  We were able to do so, told lots of folks about amateur radio, and even made a few HF contacts, even though our antenna was only a few feet off the ground.

In the afternoon, I taught my first instrumentation lab class of the semester, and I think it went well.  It was definitely better than some years, anyhow.  We’ll see how that goes.

In the evening, I had dinner with my brother and his family before falling asleep on the couch.
