Yesterday, I dropped JoAnna and Joey off at the conference and then did a little driving.  I drove nearly to Erie, PA, then turned around and drove to Steubenville, OH.  I did most of my driving so that I could operate my amateur radio equipment from new counties.  I operated from 3 counties in PA, 2 in WV, and 2 in OH.

In the evening, I picked up JoAnna and Joey, and then we met our old friend, Atta, at a Whole Foods.  We hadn’t seen Atta in years, though she was our roommate for a few days back in 2006, and a good friend for many years after.  It was good to catch up to her!

Overall, it was a good day.

Happy New Year!!!

I didn’t make any public New Year’s Resolutions.  I always use New Year’s as a way to kick off new initiatives and also a way to start over on some of my projects.  I typically find myself behind by the end of the year, so New Year’s is a time to clear out those projects and build a new timeline for them.  I haven’t completed that at this time, but I’ve been working on it.

I will give a full yearly summary on Wednesday.

We spent yesterday on the road, driving from Lodi, OH, to Plainview, IN, spending the night at the Comfort Inn.  Today, we will go to Rolla, MO.

Along our trip, I made one repeater contact on 2 meters, and I also listened to the AM broadcast band, making notes of where I heard stations.

Yesterday was a relaxing day at Aunt Barb’s house.  We spent the afternoon chatting and playing on computers and such.

I updated several of my blogs and cleaned up my checkbook, both of which needed to be dealt with.  I also tried repeatedly to contact the city of Rio Rancho about renewing my business license, but always got a busy signal.

In the evening, we did some more light grocery shopping.  As we ran around Medina, snow began to fall.  It didn’t stick to the roads, but it did keep falling.

Late at night, I installed a new app that lets me take surveys for cash.  I’ll see how that goes.  So far, I’ve made $1.50.

Yesterday, we drove from Newark, DE, to Lodi, OH.  We had decided to spend the night in Delaware the night before so that we could visit someone again before leaving town.

Our drive was uneventful and cold, but pleasant.  I operated the amateur radio in Delaware and Pennsylvania, and made a few new contacts.

We did some light grocery shopping near Akron and then went to Aunt Barb’s for the night.  Soon after we unloaded the car, it started snowing.

Yesterday, we began our long trip back to the southwest. Naturally, we did not take a direct route. We left Lodi, OH, in the afternoon and headed west to operate amateur radio equipment from two new counties. Then, we turned towards Chicago.

In Chicago, we caught up with some old friends from my girlfriend’s high school, whom we had not visited since 2009 or so. We met them at the Hollywood Grill in downtown Chicago, and had a great visit.

The drive here was relatively easy, other than a little traffic in Chicago, and a crowded gas station in Gary, IN. There was also a stray kitten in Gary; the kitten wouldn’t quite let me pet him or her, but would follow people in the parking lot. I considered taking the kitten home, but I saw that there was a food and water dish outside of the gas station, so someone is taking care of the kitten.

After that, we headed southwest, spending the night at a Quality Inn in Joliet, IL.

Yesterday, we drove from Carlisle, PA, to Aunt Barb’s house in Lodi, OH. The drive itself was totally uneventful and easy to do.

I noticed along the way that there were Roy Rogers restaurants, and at some point, I’m going to try one. I haven’t had one in a very long time- long enough that all I can remember about them is that there was one in the Cranberry Mall when I was a kid. I remember not liking the food, but not because the food was bad, but because I only liked McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets. I also remember that there was a time when they bought the Hardee’s in town, but then Hardee’s bought it back. I remember the name changed several times.

We arrived at Aunt Barb’s and have had a good visit with her so far.

Yesterday, we left our aunt’s house and drove south and west through Ohio. We stopped near Dayton to meet with one of my girlfriend’s high school friends and had a nice visit there. We also visited another Futuro house (our fifth on this trip), and I will post a photo of it on my industrial archeology blog sometime in the next day or so.

We decided to go only as far as Indianapolis last night, due to the late start to the day. However, I seem to have contracted a 24 hour flu (I feel better now), so we are saying in Indianapolis another day to rest.
