Yesterday, I spent the day driving from Pittsburgh, PA, to Jersey, VA, to visit my parents. I operated my amateur radio equipment on the VHF side. I spent the day playing on six meters and two meters, as there was a VHF contest. I operated from four new grid squares.
I drove down to Arlington to have dinner with my friends, Martha and Eric, whom I haven’t seen for several years. We had a great dinner and visit!
In the evening, I drove back into Maryland and then over the Potomac, rather than trying to go down 95 with all of the accidents.
I took a walk along the Potomac river at sunset, and I will post photos on my outdoor blog.
I arrived at my parents’ house in the evening and have had a nice visit with them so far.
Yesterday, I spent the morning working in the Unit Operations Lab, getting computers fixed up and ready for this semester. This will be a full-time effort soon, as I want to get everything ready for lab this fall.
In the afternoon, I helped babysit my nephews at a Putt-Putt course and arcade. We had a really good time, though it was quite hot outside.
In the evening, I had a nice dinner at Tucanos with my family. Joey gave me a piece of amethyst and a some blue agate, which are really quite striking. I will put them on the shelf above my computer at work.
Overall, it was a great day. Thank you for reading my post.
Yesterday, I remained moderately productive. I finished out my Spanish homework and took a Spanish exam. I don’t think I did well on the Spanish exam, which was quite disappointing.
I also spent some time going through an old hard drive, where I found my old amateur radio lectures. The lectures on there are far better than the ones I was planning on presenting, so I’ve been cleaning those up. They include content from both the Technician and General class licenses, and are much better organized than the ones I was making up for this semester, so I just have to update them for the new question pools. I haven’t taught the course in around six years, even though I felt like I taught it not too long ago.
Joey and I did some reloading. I feel like my shop is always a total disaster- I got my Lyman case trimmer up and running, only to strip the screw that adjusts the trim depth. I can trim .243’s like a beast, but nothing else.
I also did some yard work and house work. I did most of the cooking for the week, and then I made salon and green beans for a nice family dinner.
Yesterday, I was super-productive around my writing. I edited three chapters of my NaNoWriMo story. I also read through the preliminary material for my Spanish II class.
In the evening, I had dinner with my girlfriend’s parents at Red Lobster and then visited with them until the evening. We also brought our houseplants back from their house, as they watched them while we were gone on our Christmas Trip.
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. We sure did! We opened presents in the morning, and I got a power supply for amateur radio, as well as an external battery for my phone, and a new wallet. It was a good Christmas!
In the afternoon, I made a contact on 20 meters from my dad’s amateur radio station. I have over 500 contacts from this location, which puts it as the third most active county I’ve operated from after Socorro, NM, and Sandoval, NM.
I also updated my blogs heavily. I added several news archives on this site, as well as posted to my weather blog, radio blog and SIA blog. Enjoy!
Have a good evening, and thank you for reading my post.
Today has been quite hectic. I spent yesterday on the road with the NM QSO Party, which is an amateur radio contest where everyone tries to talk to as many stations in New Mexico, and also to talk to as many counties in New Mexico as possible. I made it a point to drive through as many counties in New Mexico as possible, so I was on the road for over 700 miles yesterday.
Today was supposed to be spent catching up, but I spent it doing other things instead. They were all good things though; I went to a race with my girlfriend, and then on a bike ride with my son, and then for a walk to the dog park with both of them and my dog. Overall, it was a good day!
The only actual work I did today was to work in my garden for a little bit, cleaning up some of the tumbleweeds and testing garden hoses for leaks. I also did some grocery shopping and some cooking.
Yesterday, I was relatively productive. I woke up earlier than I had throughout most of this vacation and I knocked a few items off my “To-Do” list.
I spent some time picking up a items at Walmart and playing on the radio yesterday afternoon as well. It felt good to get back on the radio after a day or so off the air. I worked another W1AW station, this one in Pennsylvania.
After all of that, we went to visit some of the cousins, and had a good visit there.
